In the territory of Herzegovina, officers of the Indirect Taxation Authority (ITA) temporarily confiscated a large amount of construction equipment and tools at the Bijača border crossing. A detailed inspection of the container shipment from China revealed a large amount of construction equipment and tools that had not been declared to the customs authorities when entering the customs territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The value of the temporarily confiscated goods is estimated at BAM 56,000, and legally prescribed measures have been taken against the perpetrators of illegal acts. Field activities were carried out within the framework of the Container Control Program in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was financed by the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the United Nations Office for the Fight against Drugs and Crime (UNDOC).
In the area of Posavina, the ITA officers temporarily confiscated oils and lubricants, tried to be smuggled into Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Šamac customs office. During a detailed inspection of the consignment declared for import customs clearance, which contained various motor oils, lubricants and additives, in addition to the goods declared for import customs clearance, the ITA officers also found a part of the goods that was not shown in the import documentation. Undeclared goods were hidden in the central part of the cargo area surrounded by duly declared goods. A misdemeanor warrant was issued to the person who committed the offense, and the goods, whose market value is estimated at BAM 9,736, were temporarily confiscated.
When taking measures within their jurisdiction, ITA officials from the Sector for the Implementation of Regulations and the Sector for Customs used specialised equipment donated to the ITA by the US Embassy in BiH through the EXBS Program, as well as by UNDP/UNODC.
