Training held for the Indirect Taxation Authority (ITA) and SIPA to enhance the “Stop Smuggling” anonymous hotline, with support from the United Kingdom Government

A three-day training programme for officers from the Indirect Taxation Authority (ITA) Operational Centre within the Enforcement Sector and the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) was held at the premises of the Indirect Taxation Authority of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with support from the UK Government.

The training focused on improving the collection and analysis of intelligence through the anonymous “Stop Smuggling” hotline, with the aim of enhancing the detection and prevention of illicit trade. The sessions were delivered by experts from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), who shared their experience and best practices in intelligence gathering and combating smuggling.

HMRC continues its close cooperation with the Indirect Taxation Authority as one of its key partners in the fight against the illegal trade in cigarettes and other tobacco products. This partnership supports the strengthening of institutional capacities to combat organised crime, protect public revenues, and safeguard the legitimate market.
